history

Founding history

The Eintracht Wels sports club was founded in 1947 as SC Neukirchen / Lambach . The club colors were still defined with black and white . A year later, in 1948, the club moved to the city of Wels, but continued to play under the old name for two years before it was renamed Union Schwarz-Weiß Wels in 1951 . In 1953 the association changed to the umbrella association ASKÖ , which was also expressed in the new association name ASKÖ Eintracht Wels . At the same time, Eintracht adopted the new club colors green and white. It was not until 1997 that it was finally renamed SK Eintracht Wels .

Promotion to the Bundesliga

In 1996 it was only enough to become runner-up in the Regionalliga Mitte with a single point behind Hartberg . In the 1996/97 season , with the championship title, the first promotion to the 2nd division of the Bundesliga was achieved.

Coach Klaus Lindenberger's team was one of the favorites for the championship title right from the start , thanks to its experienced first division riders Ralf Ruttensteiner, Bernd Pfister, Sigi Paseka, Walter Koch and the former national player Jürgen Werner I. With a budget of 8 million Schilling , the club wanted to establish itself in the second stage in the first year, with the well-known new signings Walter Schachner ( ASK Kottingbrunn ), Didi Emich ( FC Puch ), Ingolf Riedl, Stefan Auer (both FC Linz ), Ernst Kopfer ( Braunau ) and the Dane Rasmus Jørgensen ( Austria Lustenau ) should lead the way to the first division in the medium term.

Despite the bulk purchases, the autumn championship was very sobering for Eintracht Wels. After the end of the regular season, the team found themselves at the bottom of the table after 14 games with only one win. Klaus Lindenberger had to hand over the coaching position to Ernst Knorrek during the winter break, the team was again strengthened with acquisitions, but also players like Roland Huspek (FC Linz) and Roland Krammer ( Salzburg , Ried ) could not prevent the descent of the sports club, which started with great ambitions . At the end of the 1997/98 season , Wels finished only last with four wins in 18 games and after only one year returned to the third division. The only highlight of the short guest appearance in the second division was the short-term engagement of ex-international Walter Schachner .

After several unsuccessful years in the regional league, Eintracht merged in 2003 with city rivals FC Union to form the new Wels football club .
