Duane "Dog" Lee Chapman (born February 2, 1952 in Denver , Colorado ) is an American bounty hunter . In his 27-year career, he claims to have captured 7,000 fugitives, making him America's most successful bounty hunter.

biography

Chapman was born the first of four children of an industrial welder and a missionary of the " Assemblies of God " of Indian descent in Denver, where he also grew up. He joined the motorcycle gang Devils Diciples . When another gang member shot and killed a drug dealer, Chapman was convicted of complicity. He is said to have been arrested around 18 times in total.

In 1977 he was sentenced to five years' imprisonment, from which he served two years until his parole. Before the conviction, he married LaFonda S. Honeycutt, with whom he has two children. The couple divorced while he was in prison. In order to be able to pay the maintenance he started his career as a bounty hunter.

He lived with his fifth wife and colleague, Alice Elizabeth Smith (1967-2019), whom he married on May 20, 2006, in Hawaii . Chapman is the father of twelve children (two of his fifth wife) and one adopted child. He describes himself as a very devout Christian.

Chapman in the German media

When Chapman arrested the wanted Andrew Luster in neighboring Mexico in 2003 in violation of local laws and was then arrested by the Mexican police themselves, German media reported about him. He became known to a larger audience through the series Dog - The Bounty Hunter , which is broadcast on the private broadcaster RTL II . The same series can also be seen on the private broadcaster Sky on Discovery Channel .

In the US series South Park (episode 10x10) and The Simpsons (episode 20x01) Chapman is parodied. In January 2013, Dog had a cameo in the RTL II documentary soap Private Detectives in action in the Las Vegas episode . He also had a few cameos in the US crime series Hawaii Five-0 .

In the Today Show contribution Ralf Kabelka at Donald Trump's swearing-in ceremony on January 27, 2017, Duane Chapman is asked for his name at a VIP party by Ralf Kabelka towards the end of the contribution . After the speech that he is very famous in America, Duane Chapman turns and walks away.
