Elgershausen is the easternmost part of the community of Schauenburg in the northern Hessian district of Kassel .
Geographical location
Elgershausen is located in the Habichtswald Nature Park on the Bauna and in the Hoofer Pforte, which accompanies the valley of this river to the southeast, between the Hohen Habichtswald in the north and the Langenberg mountains in the south-southwest. It extends at the southern foot of the Hirzstein ( 502 m above sea level ) and west of the Baunsberg ( 413.4 m above sea level ) - both of which belong to the Hohen Habichtswald.
The federal road 520 (since July 2010 downgraded to state road 3215), which formed the Kassel-Bad Wilhelmshöhe junction east of the village with the A 44 , runs south and east past the mountain.
On the south-eastern outskirts of Elgershausen is the Schefferfeld polder , the largest flood retention basin in the Bauna catchment area.
history
Elgershausen was first mentioned in a document from 1145 as Edelgershusun , in 1211 the name Elgershusen is mentioned. The place name was derived from one of the personal names Elger, Elgar or Edelgar. A knight from Elgershausen was a feudal man of the Schauenburgs .
The place developed from an agriculturally structured town center to a municipality with small and medium-sized handicrafts and businesses. The proximity to the Volkswagen factory in Baunatal contributed significantly to the economic upturn in the town and led to the construction of many residential buildings in new residential areas. In 1962 the Beat-Schuppen Kettel-Club was opened.
On August 1, 1972, Elgershausen merged with Hoof to form the new community of Schauenburg.
