from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lukman Sainadijewitsch Schabrailow ( Russian Лукман Зайнадиевич Жабраилов ; born April 27, 1962 in Chassavyurt , Dagestani ASSR , Soviet Union) is a former Soviet wrestler who also competed for the Republic of Moldova . He became world champion in free style middleweight in 1994 .

Career

Lukman Schabrailow began as a teenager, initiated by his father Ruslan Schabrailow, in his hometown of Chassavyurt with the wrestling. He is the three years older brother of Elmadi Schabrailow , who was also a world class wrestler. Father Ruslan Schabrailow was also the coach of his sons, who focused on free style. Both sons always started as adults in the middleweight division, the weight class that at that time reached up to 82 kg body weight. In the first years of his wrestling career Lukman started for the Soviet Union, from 1993, after its end, for Moldova, while his brother Elmadi started for Kazakhstan from 1993.

Lukman Schabrailow made his first start at an international championship in 1984. He represented the Soviet Union at the European Championships in Jönköping. In the middleweight division he defeated there Jean-Daniel Cachoud, Switzerland, Leszek Ciota, Poland and Lennart Lundell from Sweden. In the poll final he was defeated by Efraim Kamberow from Bulgaria and thus took 2nd place in his pool. In the battle for the bronze medal , he defeated the 2nd of the other pool Peter Syring from the GDR after 48 seconds on the shoulder. At the Olympic Games this year in Los Angeles, a start was impossible for him from the outset because the Soviet Union boycotted these games for political reasons.

His next appearance at an international championship wasn't until 1990. If you know the strength and breadth of the Soviet wrestlers of those years, it's not surprising. The competition there was huge. At the European Championships in 1990 in Poznan, he took 2nd place. In the final he was defeated by Hans Gstöttner from the GDR with 0: 1 on points. He became vice European champion. At the 1990 World Cup he was not used.

After the political change in the Soviet Union, Lukman Schabrailow decided to start in 1993 for Moldova. He became a member of Spartak Chișinău . He played the first international competition for Moldova in April 1994. He took part in the European Championships in Rome. He came in second behind Rustem Kelekschajew from Russia and ahead of Hans Gstöttner and Alexander Sawko from Ukraine. He then caused a little surprise at the 1994 World Cup in Istanbul. Here he was together with his brother Elmadi middleweight at the start. Both brothers always tried to avoid starting the same championships in the same weight class, but that was always inevitable. In Istanbul Lukman was world champion ahead of Sebahattin Öztürk , Hans Gstöttner and Nicolae Ghita from Romania, while the actually favored Elmadi Schabrailow retired early and only finished 11th. In the final in Istanbul Schabrailow defeated Sebahattin Öztürk with 4: 2 points.

In 1995 it was Lukman Schabrailow who retired early at the World Championships in Atlanta and only finished 18th, while Elmadi Schabrailow was runner-up there. 1996 was the last year Lukman took part in international championships. But he could not place himself in the front field at the European Championships in Budapest, where he took 8th place, or at the Olympic Games in Atlanta, where he came in 9th place. At the Olympic tournament in Atlanta there was the only direct encounter between the two brothers at international championships, which Elmadi won with 10: 8 points.
