Soslan Frajew

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Soslan Frajew ( Russian Сосла́н Миха́йлович Фра́ев , Ossetian Фрайты Михаилы фырт Сослан ; born March 15, 1970 ) is an Ossetian former wrestler and European champion in 1994 in free style for Russia and Uzbek in the light heavyweight division .

Career

Soslan Frajew is a North Ossete from Beslan . He started there as a teenager with rings and developed into an outstanding freestyle wrestler. In the late 1980s he was delegated to Dynamo Vladikavkas . After the collapse of the Soviet Union , the Ossetian wrestlers started almost without exception for Russia . Soslan Frajew thought so too. Since his Ossetian compatriot Maharbeg Kadarzew , who was the best freestyle wrestler in the world in his weight class at the time, was in his weight class, Soslan was rarely used at international championships. He drew the conclusions from this and started working for Uzbekistan in 1996 . There he was looked after by coach Akhroh Ruziew.

In one of his few starts for Russia at the European Championships in Rome in 1994 , he showed his skills and became European champion with five wins . He defeated Josef Lohyna from the Czech Republic and Eldari Luka Kurtanidze from Georgia .

In his missions for Uzbekistan Soslan could not win any medals at the World Championships in 1997, 1998 and 1999. He succeeded in doing so at the Asian Games in Bangkok in 1998 and at the Asian Championships in 1997, 1999 and 2000. In 1997, 1998 and 1999 he took third place and in 2000 even second place.

After the last Asian Championships in 2000, for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney he could not qualify, he resigned from active wrestling and made a coaching education. On September 1, 2004, he was one of the first to storm the school and rescue several children from the occupied school in the attack by Chechen terrorists on a school in Beslan , which resulted in many deaths. His brother was shot dead by the terrorists.
