Brigitte Wagner (born November 20, 1983 in Freising ) is a former German wrestler . She became world champion and European champion .

Career

Brigitte Wagner came through her two brothers and their friends, whom she often took to her ring club in her childhood in Hallbergmoos. She has been training regularly at SV Siegfried Hallbergmoos since she was seven. The main coaches in her career were Christian Edfelder, Mahmoud Karimi and, in the national team, Jürgen Scheibe. In the course of her career between 1996 and 1998 she was German youth champion six times in the age groups “Cadets” and “Juniors”. In 2001 she was the first German champion among women in the weight class up to 46 kg. By 2007 she won this title six times. Her main competitors in these championships were Sarah Ehinger, KG Baienfurt, her club colleague Alexandra Demmel, and later married Alexandra Engelhardt and Sigrun Dobner from RSC Obernburg.

Her successful career on the international wrestling mat began in 1998, when she won the title in the weight class up to 40 kg when she took part in such a championship for the first time, the Junior World Championship (Cadets) in Manchester. Brigitte Wagner became Junior European Champion in the Cadets age group in 2000 in Bratislava in the weight class up to 43 kg. In the Juniors age group, Brigitte Wagner won the world champion title in Martigny in the weight class up to 46 kg in 2001 and the European champion title in Tirana in the weight class up to 50 kg in 2002.

In 2002 she became the women's world champion in Halkida / Greece in the weight class up to 48 kg. In the final she defeated Inga Karamtschakowa from Russia on points (4: 3). In 2003 she became European champion in the weight class up to 48 kg in Riga, where she defeated Lilja Kaskarakowa from Russia in the final.

In 2004 Brigitte Wagner qualified by winning the tournament in Tunis in the weight class up to 48 kg for participation in this year's Olympic Games in Athens. In Athens she lost in the first round against the exceptional athlete Chiharu Icho from Japan. According to the rules of that time, she was only able to qualify for the fight for 5th place in the consolation round with victories over Lyndsay Belisle from Canada and Tsogtazaryn, Mongolia. She lost this fight against Lorissa Oorschak from Russia. It took 6th place.

In 2008 Brigitte Wagner ended her active wrestling career, in which she worked with Clarissa Chun , USA, Mirsini Koloni, Greece, Angelique Berthenet-Hidalgo, France, Inga Karamtschakowa, Lilja Karamtschakowa, Russia, Patricia Miranda , USA, Wang Jinmei, China, Francine de Paola -Martinez, Italy, Kamelia Tsekowa, Bulgaria, Iwona Matkowska, Poland and Alexandra Engelhardt were able to defeat a number of world-class women wrestlers. Only against Irina Melnik-Mersini from Ukraine, who was her feared opponent, could she never win.

In her club, the commercial employee took over the position of a trainer in the junior area.
