Alexandra Engelhardt , née Alexandra Demmel , (born December 29, 1982 in Munich ) is a German wrestler .

Career

Alexandra Engelhardt started wrestling at TSV St. Wolfgang in 1996 under her maiden name Alexandra Demmel at the age of 14, so relatively late for a wrestler . She later switched to SV Siegfried Hallbergmoos and has been a member of KSG Ludwigshafen since 2006 and trains in Schifferstadt . During her career she was or is trained by Andreas Buchhorn, Behcet Selimoglu, Rainer Kamm, Waldemar Galwas and Jörg Helmdach . She is a member of the Bundeswehr and trains in the Bruchsal sports promotion group . In 2005, Alexandra Demmel married her sports comrade Peter Engelhardt from Nuremberg and had a son. In her free time she likes to snowboard.

As the first major success in her career, she was able to record third place in the German championship in the weight class up to 46 kg body weight (KG) in 2000 . In 2001 she was the first German champion in the weight class up to 50 kg. In 2002, 2003 and 2004 she was German runner-up in the weight class up to 51 kg, in 2002 behind Jessica Bechtel , KSG Ludwigshafen and in 2003 and 2004 behind Brigitte Wagner from SV Siegfried Hallbergmoos. In 2005 she had to take a break because of her pregnancy and in 2006 she was again German runner-up in the weight class up to 51 kg after Brigitte Wagner had reduced her weight by 16 kg, which had increased significantly due to pregnancy and the training-free time KG. From 2007 to 2011 she became German champion five times in a row, always in the weight class up to 51 kg.

Alexandra Engelhardt (Demmel) had her first appearance at an international championship in 2001. She took part in the European championship in Budapest , where she took a good fifth place with a win over Liliana Schterewa, Bulgaria and a defeat against Sofia Poumpouridou from Greece . In 2001 she also competed in the Junior World Championships (Juniors) in Martigny / Switzerland and came there in the weight class up to 50 kg after defeats against Iwona Matkowska , Poland and Ngangbam Devi, India a. a victory over the Turkish Sebiha in seventh place.

In 2003 she won her first medal at an international championship. She won at the European Championships in Riga in the weight class up to 51 kg over Innessa Rebar from Ukraine and Victoria Bucheri, Italy , lost to Natalja Karamtschakowa from Russia and defeated Anne Catherine Deluntsch from France in the fight for an EM bronze medal . At the World Championships this year in New York , Alexandra Demmel defeated Emese Szabo from Hungary , but then had the bad luck to meet the multiple world champion Chiharu Icho from Japan , to whom she lost. She was eliminated and finished in tenth place.

In 2004 and 2005, Alexandra Dremmel did not go to any international assignments. In 2004 she couldn't get past Brigitte Wagner at the national level and in 2005 from the circumstances already described. In April 2006 she started again at the European Championships in Moscow and fought her way up to the final in the weight class up to 51 kg with victories over Natalja Smirnowa from Russia, Marta Podedworna from Poland and Maria de Mar Segrano Barcelo from Spain , in which, however, she was defeated by the French Vanessa Boubryemm . She became vice European champion in 2006. At the 2006 World Cup she trained in the weight class up to 48 kg. In her first fight there she managed a sensational victory over the reigning European champion Lilija Kaskarowa from Russia, in her next fight, however, she lost to Marina Markewitsch from Belarus , which she was eliminated and only finished 13th.

In 2007, Alexandra Engelhardt took fifth place both at the European Championships in Sofia and at the World Championships in Baku in the weight category up to 51 kg, where she won the bronze medals against Emese Barka from Hungary and Anne Cathrine Deluntsche just lost on points. In 2008 she decided to train in the weight class up to 48 kg because her old rival, former world champion Brigitte Wagner, maintained her place in the weight class up to 51 kg. At the European Championships in Tampere , however, it became apparent that the strong disintegration cannot happen without loss of substance. Alexandra Engelhardt lost to Burcu Kebic from Turkey in Tampere and ended up in 15th place. At the qualifying tournaments in Edmonton and Haparanda for the Olympic Games in Beijing , she finished third. However, these places were not enough to secure one of the 20 starting places. However, she profited from a short-term decision by the World Wrestling Federation, which granted her a quota place. In Beijing, however, she lost in her first fight against Tatjana Bakatjuk from Kazakhstan and reached 14th place.

After an eleventh place at the 2009 European Championships in Vilnius , where she lost to Francine de Paola-Martinez from Italy, she won this year's World Championships in Herning / Denmark over Kyle Bremner from Australia and Kim Hyung-joo from South Korea, but lost to Sofia Mattsson from Sweden and Hong Di from the People's Republic of China and came in seventh place. In 2010 Alexandra Engelhardt won a bronze medal again at the European Championships in Baku after a defeat against Sofia Mattsson with victories over Hafize Sahin from Turkey and Natalja Budu from Moldova . At the World Cup this year, she was unable to start due to an injury.

At the 2011 European Championships in Dortmund she won over Melek Atakol from Turkey, but suffered a serious shoulder injury in her next fight against Estera Dobre from Romania and therefore lost this fight on points. Since Estera Dobre reached the final, Alexandra Engelhardt could have continued to fight in the consolation round, but her injury prevented a fight against Karlaina Tjapko from Latvia . She was eliminated and came in seventh place. After this injury healed, she won bronze at the 2012 European Championships . At the Olympic Games in London , she was eliminated from Venezuela in the round of 16 after a loss to Mayelis Caripa Castillo.
