Career

Jessica Bechtel, from a family that has been wrestling for generations, one of her uncle is Rosario Schmitt , a former multiple German champion in the Greco-Roman style, started this sport at the age of eight. She joined the ASV Ludwigshafen . Over the years she grew to a size of 1.58 meters in the weight class up to 55 kg body weight (KG). She has been coached by Waldemar Galwas since 2000, and Jürgen Scheibe joined the national team as a coach. In order to be able to practice her sport successfully, she joined the armed forces and became a member of a sports promotion company. During her career she started for ASV Ludwigshafen, AC Laubenheim , VfK 07 Schifferstadt u. KSG Ludwigshafen .

In 1997 she took 3rd place in the international German championship for women in the weight class up to 40 kg and 2nd in the German youth championship in the same weight class behind Nicole Hauptmann from Böhlen . In 1998 she took 3rd place in the German youth championship (up to 58 kg) behind Sarah Ehinger from Baienfurt and Jasmin Pal from Münster and in 1999 she was the first German youth champion (up to 49 kg). In 2000 she came second in the German youth championship in the weight category up to 52 kg and in 2001 she won the German youth championship title for the second time in the same weight category.

In the adult (active) category, Jessica Bechtel won her first German championship title in the weight class up to 51 kg in 2002. Then she won the German championship title in the weight class up to 55 kg in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. 2003, 2004 a. In 2010 she became German vice-champion and in 2011 she reached 3rd place.

In the international arena, her successes began in 2000 with a 4th place at the European Junior Championships (Cadets) in Bratislava in the weight class up to 49 kg. A year later, in 2001, she became European champion (Cadets) in Izmir in the weight class up to 52 kg. With Kaschtschewa from Belarus , Marta Paciorek from Poland , Elena Tschalygina from Russia and Julia Golowina from Ukraine she defeated four strong wrestlers from the former Eastern Bloc countries. In 2001 it was already used at the World Championships in Sofia and came in 11th place in the weight class up to 51 kg, after defeating Alfia Zainulina from Kyrgyzstan and losing to Natalja Karamtschakowa from Russia.

In 2002 Jessica Bechtel reached a good 5th place at the European Championships in Seinäjoki / Finland in the weight class up to 51 kg and in 2003 she was at the Junior World Championships in Istanbul in the weight class up to 55 kg after victories over Lilija Polowko , Ukraine , Magdeleine van As, South Africa , Kitto Godo , Hungary and Chikako Matsukawa , Japan and a defeat in the final against Yan Zhihui from China Vice World Champion. At the European Championships in 2005 in Varna , she retired early after a defeat against Gudrun Annette Hoie from Norway and only came in 11th place. She fought much better at the World Championships this year in Budapest , because she won there over Sabrina Esposito from Italy and Sylwia Bilenska from Poland, but then lost to Tonya Verbeek from Canada and reached 8th place. Against Gudrun Høie she succeeded at the Grand Prix of Germany in Dormagen revenge, because they defeated them there for victory safely on points.

2006 was a good year for Jessica Bechtel. Although she just missed medal ranks at both the European Championships in Moscow and the World Championships in Guangzhou with 5th places, she had earned a lot of respect there through courageous fights. It was annoying for her that she lost in the battle for the bronze medal against Minerva Montero Perez from Spain , whom she had defeated at the European Championships in Moscow.

After that, she did not achieve any more success at the international level. At the 2007 World Cup in Baku , she came after defeats against Saori Yoshida from Japan and Joice Souza da Silva from Brazil only on the 23rd place and in 2008 she missed the qualification for the Olympic Games in Beijing .
