Ida-Theres Nerell , b. Karlsson , (born April 18, 1983 in Boden ) is a Swedish wrestler . She is five-time European champion in the weight classes up to 55 kg and 59 kg body weight.

Career

Ida-Theres Nerell began her wrestling career as a teenager in 1994 under her maiden name Ida-Theres Karlsson. With this name she was recorded in the winners lists until the end of 2007. She then married Magnus Nerell and has started under the name Nerell since the beginning of 2008. The first club she started for was the Snar Boden bread club . Now she is starting for the Haestveda bread narcotics club . She was or is trained by Tord Karlsson and Mikael Persson. The strong, only 1.58 meter tall athlete starts in the weight class up to 55 kg or 59 kg body weight. Her job is wrestler, student and social worker. She lives with her husband in Hässleholm .

Between 1995 and 1999 she won six Swedish championship titles among the juniors (Cadets and Juniors). She became Swedish adult champion for the first time in 2000. In 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008 she added seven more to this title.

Since 1998 she has also started at the international championships. It started at the Junior World Championships (Cadets) in Manchester , where she took 3rd place in the weight class up to 52 kg, behind Saori Yoshida ( Japan ), who later became one of her main competitors, and Iwona Matkowska from Poland . She celebrated her greatest success in her junior years in 1999 when she became Junior World Champion (Cadets) in the weight class up to 52 kg in Łódź, ahead of Agnieszka Lis (Poland) and Erin Tomeo ( USA ). In addition, she was in Sofia Junior European Champion (Juniors) in the weight class in 2000 . up to 50 kg ahead of Natalja Guschina (Russia) and Iwona Matkowska and won this title in Tirana in 2002 in the weight class up to 54 kg ahead of Olga Krigina ( Ukraine ) and Wiktoria Sagainowa (Russia).

In the case of adults, it started for the first time in 2001 at an international championship. At the European Championships in Budapest , she immediately came second in the weight class up to 56 kg. In the final she had to admit defeat to the Ukrainian Tetjana Lasarewa . At the 2001 World Championships in Martigny ( Switzerland ) she reached 4th place in the weight class up to 58 kg, in which Saori Yoshida won the title. In 2002 she was in Seinäjoki ( Finland ) in the weight class up to 55 kg, again after a defeat in the final against Tetjana Lasarewa, again vice European champion. At the 2002 World Cup in Chalkida (Greece), she lost again in the semifinals of the weight class up to 55 kg against Saori Yoshida, but won a bronze medal in the World Cup with a victory over Konstantina Katerina Tsibanakou from Greece .

Ida-Theres Karlsson was less successful at the 2003 European Championships in Riga , because she came there in the weight class up to 55 kg after a surprising defeat against Sofia Poumpouridou , Greece, only to 6th place, and she lost at the World Championships of the same year in the same weight class against Monika Ewa Michalik from Poland and despite a victory over Sofia Poumpouridou only reached 19th place. In 2004 she won her first title at an international adult championship. She won the European Championships in Haparanda in the weight class up to 55 kg and defeated on the way to this success u. a. Sabrina Lotz from Germany just on points (2: 1 rounds, 4: 3 technical points). In the final she defeated her previous feared opponent Tetjana Lasarewa. The Olympic Games in Athens were disappointing for them . Because she lost there in her first fight against Tetjana Lasarewa, then defeated Malol Fonseca Ramirez from Puerto Rico but after further defeats against Tonya Verbeek from Canada and Anna Gomis from France she only reached the ungrateful 4th place.

2005 in Varna , 2007 in Sofia and 2008 in Tampere , Ida-Theres Nerell was then again European champion, each in the weight class up to 59 kg. In the finals she defeated Audrey Prieto from France , Marianna Sastin from Hungary and Elvira Mursalowa from Azerbaijan . In 2006 she won a bronze medal at the world championship in Guangzhou , and in 2007 she had to admit defeat only Saori Yoshida at the world championship in Baku in the weight class up to 55 kg and became vice world champion.

Again, she had no luck at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . There she met Saori Yoshida in her first fight and lost again. Then she defeated Natalja Golz from Russia, but a defeat in the consolation round against Tonya Verbeek shattered all hopes for a medal. She only took 5th place.

After these Olympic Games, Ida-Theres Nerell took a break from wrestling. In 2009 and 2010 she never went on a mat and devoted herself more to her family and her studies.

In 2011 she made a successful comeback. She won the Yasar Dogu Memorial in Istanbul and the Klippan Lady Open and in April of this year also at the European Championships in Dortmund in the weight class up to 55 kg. In Dortmund she defeated Tiina Ylinen from Finland, Ana Maria Pavăl from Romania, Maria Gurowa from Russia and Ludmila Cristea from Moldova .

The long-term goal of their comeback is definitely the 2012 Olympic Games in London .
