Iwona Matkowska
Iwona Nina Matkowska (born May 28, 1982 in Żary ) is a Polish wrestler . In 2012 she became European champion in the weight class up to 51 kg.
Career
Iwona Matkowska started wrestling as a teenager in 1993 at the Agra Żary Sports Club , to which she still belongs. Since then, Ryszard Dynowski has also been her trainer. Jan Grudlewski joined the team as a further trainer. She studied sport, but has been a member of the Polish armed forces for several years.
Iwona Matkowska has taken part in 27 World or European Championships in her long career (in the junior women, in the women, in the University World Championships and the Military World Championships). For the first time she started in 1998 at an international championship and was Junior Vice World Champion (Cadets) in Manchester in the weight class up to 52 kg. She also became vice world champion in 2000 in Nantes for the juniors in the weight class up to 50 kg. She was only defeated in the final by the Japanese Chiharu Icho .
In 2002 she started at the European Women's Championships in Seinäjoki / Finland , where she just missed a medal with a 4th place in the weight class up to 48 kg, in which she was to compete until 2012. In the same year she also started for the first time at a world championship for women. In Chalkida / Greece she had to be content with 19th place after a defeat against Inga Karamtschakowa from Russia.
The first medal at a championship for women, she won in 2005 at the European championship in Varna . You defeated there u. a. Anne Catherine Deluntsch from France and Sigrun Dobner from Germany and only lost in the final battle against Lorissa Oorsak from Russia. A year later, in 2006, she won her first medal at a world championship in Guangzhou / China . She took 3rd place there and received a World Cup bronze medal .
In 2008 she fought for a bronze medal at the European Championships in Tampere , which after a defeat against Vanessa Boubryemm from France secured victories over Natalja Budu from Moldova and Burcu Kebic from Turkey . Subsequently, she did not succeed in the Olympic qualifying tournaments in Edmonton , as she finished 21st place and in Haparanda , where she finished 5th, to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing .
She then won more bronze medals at the European Championships in Baku in 2010 and in Dortmund in 2011 . In Baku she lost to Lorissa Oorsak in the semifinals and won the battle for the bronze medal over Lenka Matwejewa from Slovakia and in Dortmund she managed a victory over Lorissa Oorsak, but then lost in the semifinals to the Ukrainian Maria Stadnik, who started for Azerbaijan . She then secured the bronze medal with a victory over Maria Stadnik's sister, Jana Stadnik , who competed for Great Britain .
In 2012 Iwona Matkowska finally managed to win the first title at an international championship at the European championship in Belgrade, apart from her victory at the 2010 military world championship in Lahti . Iwona Matkowska started in Belgrade for the first time in many years in the weight class up to 51 kg and defeated Karolina Tjapko from Latvia , Burcu Kebis, Katja Krasnowa from Russia and Oleksandra Kohut from Ukraine on the way to her success .
Iwona Matkowska is also a thirteen-time Polish champion (including junior title). However , she has not yet qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games in London , as she only finished 30th at the 2011 World Cup in Istanbul after a defeat in the first round against Clarissa Chun from the United States . But she achieved this qualification with a victory at the qualification tournament in Sofia. She won there ahead of Alexandra Engelhardt from Germany. In London she won over Patricia Bermudez from Argentina and Dawaasüchiin Otgontsetseg from Mongolia. In her third fight, however, she was defeated by former world champion Clarissa Chun from the United States. Since she did not reach the final, she was eliminated and finished in 7th place.
In 2013 Iwona Matkowska took a break, but returned successfully in the summer of 2014 and won a. a. at two very well-filled international tournaments in Madrid and Dabrowa / Poland.
