Jana Stadnik

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jana Stadnik (born January 20, 1987 in Lviv , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian and British wrestler . In 2010 and 2013 she was vice European champion in the weight class up to 48 kg body weight.

Career

Jana Stadnik comes from a Ukrainian wrestling family. Her brother Andrei Stadnik and her sisters-in-law Maria Stadnik and Alina Stadnyk-Machynja are, like them, world class wrestlers . She herself began wrestling at the age of six under the guidance of her father. She was already very successful as a junior wrestler, still starting for the Ukraine.

In 2001, at the age of 14, she was in Izmir Junior Vice European Champion (age group Cadets) in the weight class up to 46 kg. A year later, in 2002, she won this title in Albena / Bulgaria in the weight class up to 49 kg and in 2003 she was runner-up in the Cadets in Seville. In 2005 she won again, this time in Wrocław in the "Juniors" age group. Only in 2006 she could not win a medal at a junior European championship. In Szombathely she only finished 8th.

In 2007 Jana Stadnik went to Great Britain for personal reasons and has started for this country since then. She has lived in Manchester since then, where she trains at a wrestling academy under the coach Anatoli Charitonjuk. After a ban, she was allowed to start for this country from 2009 and took part in the World Championships in Herning / Denmark that year. She took an excellent 5th place in the weight class up to 48 kg after victories over Nirmala Devi, India, Naziha Hamza, Tunisia and Lindsay Rushton Pricket, Canada and defeat against her sister Maria, who started for Azerbaijan, and against Lyudmila Baluschka from Ukraine.

In 2010 she won the silver medal at the European Championships in Baku in the weight class up to 48 kg, in which she started exclusively. On the way to this success she defeated Filiz Cikrikci, Turkey and Melanie LeSaffre, France and lost in the final against Larissa Oorschak from Russia. In the same year she married the British wrestler Leon Rattigan . In September 2010 she started at the World Championships in Moscow. She won there over Patricia Bermudez, Argentina and Kim Hyung-joo, South Korea, but then lost to Iwona Matkowska from Poland. Since this did not reach the final, she was eliminated and took 7th place.

In 2011 Jana Stadnik came in 5th place at the European Championships in Dortmund after a win over Henriette Slattun, Norway, a loss to Maria Stadnik, a win over Sara Sanchez Perez, Spain and a loss to Iwona Matkowska.

During her stay in Great Britain, she tried to obtain a British passport to take part in the 2012 London Olympics. Despite her marriage to Leon Rattigan, this passport was refused by the British immigration authorities. Therefore it could not start in London.

Despite this disappointment, she took part in the European Championship in Tbilisi in 2013, starting again for Great Britain, where she won a silver medal with victories over Anna Lukasiak , Poland, Frederike Petersson, Sweden and Patimat Bagomedowa , Azerbaijan and a defeat against Valerija Tschepsarakowa , Russia .
