Jessica MacDonald

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jessica Anne Marie MacDonald (born February 27, 1984 in Windsor , Ontario ) is a Canadian wrestler . In 2012 she became world champion in the weight class up to 51 kg.

Career

Jessica MacDonald didn't start wrestling until she was eighteen in high school. She started under her maiden name Jessica Bondy and has been wrestling under the name Jessica MacDonald since they got married in 2009. The first club she belonged to was the Windsor Wrestling Club . Since starting her studies in 2003 she started for the Brock St. Catherins Wrestling Club . She is trained by Marty Calder. She is teacher. At the beginning of her career she started in the weight class up to 55 kg, but since 2007 only in the weight class up to 51 kg body weight.

She first appeared in the winners' lists in 2003 when she finished 5th at the Canadian Junior Championship in the weight class up to 51 kg. In 2004 she won 3rd place at the Canadian Senior Championship behind Lyndsay Belisle and Teresa Piotrowski. She was Canadian champion for the first time in 2009 before Terry McNutt. In 2011 and 2012 she repeated this title win, winning both times in front of Vanessa Brown and Genevieve Haley.

Jessica MacDonald's international career began at the 2008 Universities World Cup in Thessaloniki. She won a bronze medal behind Katherine Fulp-Allen from the United States and Maki Fujimoto from Japan. In the same year it was used at the regular women's world championships in Tokyo. She lost her first fight there against the multiple world champion Hitomi Sakamoto from Japan, then won against Helen Maroulis from the United States and retired after her first consolation round match, which she lost against Vanessa Boubryemm from France, and finished in 5th place.

In 2009 she only finished 24th at the World Championships in Herning / Denmark, because there she lost her first fight against Roksana Zasina from Poland quite clearly. At the World Cup in Nanjing / China in March 2010, where it won ahead of Li Shuang, China, and Julia Blahinja from Ukraine , it showed that it is better than this result says . At the 2010 World Cup in Moscow she fared like 2009, because she lost her first fight there against Tatiana Amanschol-Bakatschuk from Kazakhstan and therefore only reached 15th place. At the Commonwealth Games in October 2010 in New Delhi she was third behind Ifeoma Nwoye from Nigeria and Babita Kumari from India.

In 2011 Jessica MacDonald won the Pan American Championships in Rionegro (Colombia) ahead of Jessica Medina from the United States and Wendy Iomara Martinez from Mexico. In June 2011 she could also be seen in Germany, because she won the German Grand Prix in Dormagen that month ahead of Jessica Bechtel from Germany and Anna Lukasiak from Poland. At the World Cup in Istanbul in August 2011, she then won a bronze medal in the World Cup with a victory over Maria del Mar Serrano Barcelo, Spain, a defeat against Samira Rachmanova , Russia and victories over Sun Yanan , China, and Mareka Shidochi from Japan. After this championship, she tried to qualify for participation in the 2012 Olympic Games in London at the Canadian Olympic Trials. She trained in the weight class up to 48 kg because the weight class up to 51 kg is not Olympic. She reached the final of the trials against the 2008 Olympic champion Carol Huynh and was defeated by just a few points. Carol Huynh therefore received the Olympic starting place for 2012.

In 2012 Jessica MacDonald, again wrestling in the weight class up to 51 kg, was again Pan American champion in Colorado Springs. She relegated Whitney Conder from the United States and Mayara Amalia Graciano from Brazil to the places. The greatest success of her wrestling career came in September 2012 when she became world champion in Strathcona County / Canada with victories over Samira Rachmanowa, Babita Kumari and Sun Yanan.
