Tatjana Padilla
Tatjana Yadira Padilla Suarez (born December 19, 1990 in Azusa , California ) is an American wrestler . She won a bronze medal in the weight class up to 55 kg body weight at the women's world championships in 2008 and 2010 .
Career
Tatjana Padilla grew up in Covina Northview, California , where she started wrestling at the age of four. She later continued the sport in high school and at the California Grapplers Lavorne wrestling club . Her first trainer was Davie Ochoa. In the course of her career she trained with Bobby Bellamy, David Craig, Chris Lopez and the national team coaches Terry Steiner and Wladislaw Isboinikow. After graduating from high school, she is now attending Lindenwood (Mo.) University. She is 1.70 meters tall and usually starts in the weight class up to 55 kg body weight and now belongs to the Sunkist Kids wrestling club in Phoenix (Arizona) . She mostly trains at the US Wrestling Association's performance center in Colorado Springs .
Tatjana Padilla had early success on the national level and became US Junior Champion in 2005, 2006 and 2007 (age group Cadets = age group up to the age of 16) and in 2007 also for the first time US Junior Champion (age group up to age 20) . In 2007 she became vice-junior world champion in the weight class up to 59 kg in Beijing at the age of 17. She just had to let local Li Song Ni go first.
In 2008 she was again American junior champion and took 3rd place in the US Olympic Trials in the weight class up to 66 kg behind Marcie van Dusen and Sally Roberts. In 2008, World Championships were held after the Olympic Games. Tatjana Padilla took 1st place in the World Championship trials, representing the United States at the World Championships in Tokyo . She defeated Sofia Poumporidou from Greece , Enid del Carmen Rivera Velasquez from Puerto Rico and Tatjana Grigorjewa from Belarus , then lost to Tetjana Lasarewa from Ukraine and finally secured a World Cup bronze medal with a victory over Ana Maria Pavăl from Romania . Two months earlier she had already won a bronze medal at the Junior World Championships in Istanbul with a victory in the decisive fight against Geeta from India.
In 2009 Tatjana Padilla only came 4th in the US Women's Championship in the weight category up to 59 kg. But she won the World Championship trials in the weight class up to 55 kg and therefore started at the World Championship in Herning / Denmark , where she won against Gudrun Annette Høie from Norway and Geeta, India against Sona Ahmadli from Azerbaijan and finally in the fight for one Bronze medal also lost against Alena Filipawa from Belarus and thus came in 5th place.
In 2010 Tatjana Padilla became USA champion for the first time in the weight class up to 55 kg, ahead of Helen Maroulis and Whitney Conder. She then prevailed against Helen Maroulis in the World Championship trials and took part in the 2010 World Championship in Moscow . There you get victories over Salina Sidakowa, Belarus and Ana Maria Pavăl. Then she lost to Saori Yoshida , the double Olympic champion from Japan, on points, before she was able to secure a World Cup bronze medal again with victories over Um Ji-eun, South Korea and Maria Gurowa from Russia .
In 2011 Tatjana only competed in a few international tournaments at the beginning of the year. She has not been seen on the mat since March 2011, although the reasons for this are unknown.
