Chiho Hamada ( Japanese 浜 田 千 穂 , Hamada Chiho ; born November 17, 1992 ) is a Japanese wrestler . In 2014 she became world champion in the weight class up to 55 kg.
Career
Chiho Hamada started wrestling as a teenager in 1999. She is a student at NSSU (Nippon Sports Sciences University) and is trained by Shingo Matsumoto. From 2006 to 2012 she won the Asian Junior Championship (Cadets and Juniors) in various weight classes five times. In 2012 she was also Junior World Champion in Pattaya in the weight class up to 59 kg ahead of Hafize Sahin, Turkey, Feng Jiamin, China and Oksana Herhel, Ukraine.
In October 2012 she started at the Universities World Championships in Kuortane / Finland in the weight class up to 55 kg, but only came in 10th there. In December 2012, she was Japanese runner-up in the same weight class, where she was only marginally defeated in the final fight against Kanako Murata (1: 2 rounds, 3: 3 points, last rating for Murata). Also in 2013 she was runner-up in the Japanese weight class, losing in the final against the most successful female wrestler ever in the world, Saori Yoshida on points (0: 2 rounds, 1: 4 points).
In March 2014, she and Kanako Murata were part of the Japanese team at the Team World Cup in Tokyo. She was used twice in the weight class up to 55 kg, defeating Kelsey Campbell from the United States and Emese Barka from Hungary. In the final, which Japan won 8-0 against Russia, Kanako Murata wrestled. At the Asian Championships in Almaty, Chiho Hamada started in the weight class up to 55 kg, but disappointed there, because after a victory over Seo Shiphi, India, she was defeated by Guan Yajing from China, was eliminated and only came in 7th place. In July 2014, however, she managed to become student world champion in the same weight class in Pécs / Hungary, defeating the Russian Irina Ologonowa in the final. In September 2014 Chiho Hamada became world champion for the first time in the weight class up to 55 kg in Tashkent. She became the successor of her compatriot Saori Yoshida , who was three times Olympic champion and eleven times world champion in this weight class. Saori Yoshida started at the 2014 World Cup in the new weight class up to 53 kg body weight. Chiho Hamada defeated Katarzyna Krawczyk , Poland, Giullia Rodrigues, Brazil, Helen Maroulis , USA and Irina Ologonowa on the way to her success .
In March 2015 Chiho Hamada was part of the Japanese team that won the Team World Cup in St. Petersburg . In the weight class up to 53 kg, she defeated Roksana Zasina, Poland, Whitney Conder, United States, Anschela Dorogan, Azerbaijan and in the final battle also Maria Gurowa , Russia.
After that, however, her streak of success broke, because she could neither qualify for participation in the 2015 World Cup, nor for participation in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. In December 2016 she became Japanese runner-up in the weight class up to 58 kg. In the final, she lost to Risako Kawai .
In 2017, Chiho Hamada was unable to start for a long time due to injury. She only took part in the Japanese championship again in December 2017 and took second place in the weight class up to 57 kg behind Katsuki Sakagami and in front of Akie Hanai and Sae Nanjo.
