Mike Foy

Mike Foy (born February 24, 1962 ) is a retired American wrestler.

Career

Mike Foy began at the age of 14 years with the rings . He was a colored athlete and could not follow the path of almost all American wrestlers who learned and played the sport in high schools and universities. Nevertheless, he made progress through YMCA funding programs and had the US top in Greco-Roman. Wrestling achieved in the mid-1980s. He started for the Minnesota "Grizzlies" in the National Wrestling League. His coach at the time was Jim Zalesky. He qualified for the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul . National coach at that time was Dan Chandler, to whom he owed a lot of support. At the Olympic Games himself he could not place in the front field, as he was defeated by Andreas Steinbach from Germany in the third round and had to retire.

In 1989, however, he showed what he was made of, because he was runner-up at the World Championships in Martigny / Switzerland . Beat only by Maik Bullmann from Frankfurt (Oder) . Against Maik Bullmann, he lost just on points in a highly dramatic fight at the 1990 World Cup in Rome . Since this happened in the second round, he had to retire early.

From 1991 Mike Foy started for the "Sunkist Kids", but did not take part in the 1991 World Championships. He was there again at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona , where he reached a good 6th place in the light heavyweight division. He also did well at the 1994 World Championships in Tampere with a 5th place, which he fought against the Norwegian Stig Kleven .

He took part in the Pan American Championships in 1989 and 1995. In 1989 he won the light heavyweight title in front of the Cuban Reynaldo Pena , against whom he lost in 1995 and finished second behind this.

Mike Foy now works as a salesman and consultant on the production of wrestling films.
