Ahmet Çakıcı (born January 10, 1963 in İzmit / Turkey ) is a former German wrestler . He won the bronze medal at the world championship in 1989 in Martigny / Switzerland in free style in the lightweight.
Career
Ahmet Çakıcı came to Kleinostheim with his family in 1964 . Father Osman Nouri Çakıcı was a wrestler and so it is not surprising that four of his five sons also became wrestlers. Ahmet Çakıcı showed the greatest talent and developed into an excellent freestyle wrestler by the age of 20. He started for AC Bavaria Goldbach and was naturalized in Germany in 1983 . In 1984 he was the first German lightweight champion and qualified for participation in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles . An injury that he sustained shortly before the games prevented him from starting there. At the European championships of the same year in Jönköping , which took place immediately after the German championships, he proved his international competitiveness with four wins, even if he suffered a clear point defeat in the battle for the bronze medal against the Bulgarian Kamen Penew with 3:10.
In the years that followed, Ahmet Çakıcı was repeatedly hampered by injuries that prevented greater success. In 1986 he took a good 6th place at the European Championships in Athens , although he had to forego the fight for 5th place against the Greek Georgios Athanasiadis due to an injury. Also in 1987 an injury stopped him prematurely at the European Championships in Veliko Tarnovo .
In 1989 Ahmet Çakıcı achieved the greatest success of his career. He won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Martigny / Switzerland . On the way to this medal he won over John Giura , USA , Herminio Hidalgo, Panama , Nikolai Kassabow , Bulgaria and others. Rahmi Harunoglu , Turkey . Against Boris Budajew from the Soviet Union he lost with 1: 6 points.
After a long break at the international championships, Ahmet Çakıcı tried a comeback in 1995. He showed appealing performances both at the European Championships in Freiburg / Switzerland and at the World Championships in Istanbul , but could no longer place himself in the front of the field. At the world championship in Istanbul he even managed to win over ex-world champion Boris Budajew.
Ahmet Çakıcı was for many years in the Bundesliga team of AC Bavaria Goldbach and won the German team championship six times with this club. In 1996 he moved to KSV Germania Aalen (today KSV Aalen 05 ) and won the German team championship as a wrestler again in 1996 with this club. From 1997 to 2002 he was a coach at Aalen and led KSV to win the German team championship six times. Ahmet Çakıcı was from 2003 to 2007, as well as in the 2008/09 season , coach of TSV Dewangen and led TSV 2006 in the 1st Bundesliga. Since the end of 2009 he has been the trainer of ASV Mainz 1888 .
