Kim Jong-shin (born May 17, 1970 ) is a retired South Korean wrestler . He became world champion in 1989 and won a silver medal at the 1992 Olympic Games , each in free style in light flyweight .
Career
Kim Jong-shin began wrestling as a teenager in 1984. He belonged to the Samsung Seoul Sports Club and was trained by Wan An-je. He only started in free style. At a height of 1.56 meters, he mostly wrestled in the lightest weight class in men's wrestling, the light flyweight, which had its weight limit of 48 kg. Towards the end of his career, he switched to the next higher weight class, the flyweight , with a weight limit of 52 kg.
In 1987 he launched the first time in an international championship, the World Youth Championship (Espoirs = 20 years of age) in Burnaby / Canada and won the light flyweight behind Gnel Medschlumjan, Soviet Union and Erin Millsap, United States , a bronze medal . A year later, in 1988, he even won the world championship title at the Junior World Championship (Juniors = up to the age of 18) in Wolfurt / Austria, ahead of Luwsan-Ischiin Sergelenbaatar from Mongolia . In December 1988 he won the Asian Championships in Islamabad in the light flyweight before Li Hak-son from North Korea . At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , however, it has not yet been used.
1989 launched Kim Jong-shin at the Grand Prix of Germany in Bonn and finished there behind Romica Rasovan , Romania , but before Reiner pitchfork from Germany to second place. At the Asian Championships in 1989 in Oarai Ibarak / Japan, he finished third behind Chodognamuugiin Batbadral , Mongolia and Kim Soon-chol, North Korea. In the same year he achieved his greatest success in his career at the World Championships in Martigny, Switzerland , because he was world champion there in the light flyweight division ahead of Li Hak-son, Gnel Medschlumjan and Ilyas Sükrüoglu, Turkey.
At the 1990 World Cup, Kim Jong-shin was not at the start. But he was Asian champion in Beijing ahead of Ombir Singh, India and Tserenbaataryn Chosbajar from Mongolia. In 1991 he took part in the World Cup in Varna . He won there in the light flyweight behind Wugar Orudschow , Soviet Union and Kim Il-ong , North Korea, and before Reiner Heugabel the bronze medal. In 1992 he also took part in the Olympic Games in Barcelona . He fought his way through to the final with victories over Romica Rasovan, Francisco Jairez Sanchez Parra, Spain , Chen Zheng Bin, China, Tserenbaataryn Chosbajar, Mongolia and Tim Vanni , United States , but in which he beat his compatriot North Korean Kim Il lost and had to travel home with the silver medal.
In 1995, Kim Jong-shin recorded another great success when he won the flyweight title at the Asian Championships in Manila in front of Mais Ibadow from Uzbekistan and Karim Hossein from Iran. He started again this year at the World Cup in Atlanta , but only came in 14th there.
