Agnieszka Wieszczek (2008)

Agnieszka Jadwiga Wieszczek-Kordus (born March 22, 1983 in Wałbrzych ) is a Polish wrestler . She won a bronze medal in the weight classes up to 67 kg and up to 72 kg at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and at three European Championships .

Career

Agnieszka Wieszczek-Kordus only started wrestling at the age of 17 in 2000. The strong, 1.75 meter tall athlete started at the beginning of her career and in 2006 in the weight class up to 67 kg and since 2004 with the exception of 2006 always in the weight class up to 72 kg, the heaviest weight class in women's wrestling. The sports clubs for which she competed so far were Grunwald Poznań and ZTA Zgierz . She has been trained by Piotr Krajewski since 2009. She is a student and a member of the army.

Due to the fact that she started wrestling relatively late, she has no successes on the international wrestling mat in junior age. Her first notable success came in 2004 when she became vice-world champion of the students in the weight class up to 72 kg behind the American Stephany Lee in Łódź . In 2005 she started in Varna for the first time at a European championship for women and took 7th place there. In 2005 she won a bronze medal with third place at the World University Championships in Izmir . At the World Wrestling Championships 2005 in Budapest she came to a victory over Maria Louiza Vryoni from Greece , but then lost to Iris Smith from the United States and Stanka Slatewa from Bulgaria and only reached 12th place.

In 2006 Agnieszka Wieszczek won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Moscow in the weight class up to 67 kg behind Jelena Perepelkina from Russia and Kristina Odrina Orbowa from Latvia . At this year's World Championships in Guangzhou , she could not achieve such success. She lost there after winning a fight against Elena Diana Mudrag from Romania and came in 8th place. 2007 was a very similar year for Agnieszka Wieszczek. She first won a bronze at the European Championships in Sofia with victories over Dina Iwanowa, Latvia, Marina Gastl , Austria and Nina Sklenkova, Czech Republic , after a defeat against Svetlana Sajenko from Ukraine . At the World Championships in Baku she again defeated Maria Louiza Vryoni and then lost to Kristie Marano (Davis), United States and against Maider Unda Gonzales de Audicana from Spain , with these results this time only reaching 16th place.

The 2008 season was the opposite of the 2006 and 2007 seasons for her. In 2008 she was unsuccessful at the European Championships in Tampere , where she only finished 13th after a defeat against Anita Schätzle from Germany . She was all the more successful at the Olympic Games in Beijing , because she won an Olympic bronze medal there with victories over Laure Annabel Ali from Cameroon and Anita Schätzle, a defeat against Stanka Slatewa and a victory over Maider Unda Gonzales de Audicana and thus celebrated the greatest success of her career.

Agnieszka Wieszczek won further medals at the 2009 European Championships in Vilnius and at the 2011 European Championships in Dortmund . In the decisive encounters she won these medals in 2009 by defeating Emma Weberg from Sweden and in 2011 by defeating Maria Müller from Germany and Kristine Odrina Orbowa. Between 2009 and 2011 she only took part in world championships in 2011 in Istanbul . But she lost there against Stanka Slatewa and against Güzäl Mänürowa from Kazakhstan and ended up in 30th place.

In 2012 she tried to qualify for the tournaments in Sofia, Taiyuan and Helsinki for participation in the Olympic Games in London . But she didn't succeed with places 3rd, 10th and 17th.

Agnieszka Wieszczek is also a multiple Polish champion in the weight classes up to 67 and 72 kg body weight.
