Maja Gunvor Erlandsen (born October 11, 1989 ) is a Norwegian wrestler . In 2012 she became European champion in the weight class up to 72 kg.

Career

Maja Erlandsen comes from Tana in the province of Finnmark . She started wrestling at the IF Tana sports club in 2003 at the age of 14 . Her first trainer was Frode Gundersen, who still looks after her today. Jan Stawowski joined the Norwegian national team as a coach. At a height of 1.69 meters, it ranged in the weight class up to 67 kg for years and moved to the weight class up to 72 kg in 2011. She was Norwegian champion in 2008, 2010 and 2011. Maja Erlandsen is a frequent starter who has competed in up to ten major championships or tournaments in some years. She lives and trains in Oslo today .

She began her international career in 2006, where she won second place in the weight class up to 70 kg at the Nordic Junior Championship. In 2007 she came in 5th place at the European Junior Championships in Belgrade in the weight class up to 67 kg. In the following years she took part regularly in the international championships. At first she was never able to place herself in the front of the field. The best result she achieved by 2011 was a 7th place at the World Cup in Istanbul . There she defeated Maria Louisa Vryoni from Greece and Aline da Silva Ferreira from Brazil .

For big blow Maja Erlandsen then brought in the European Championship 2012. in Belgrade, because there they won with victories over Yasemin Adar, Turkey , Natalya Palamarchuk, Azerbaijan , Maider Unda Gonzales de Audicana , Spain and the triple European champion Kateryna Burmistrowa from the Ukraine as a surprise the European title in the weight class up to 72 kg. After that, however, she did not succeed in qualifying in three qualifying tournaments for participation in the 2012 Olympics.

After serious allegations to the Norwegian Wrestling Association, which had never given her sufficient support, she then resigned from competitive sports.
