Tana ( Sami: Deatnu ) is a municipality in the Norwegian province ( Fylke ) Troms og Finnmark .

The municipality is located on the lower reaches of the river Tana (Sami: Deatnu , Finnish : Tenojoki ), which marks the border with Finland for much of its length . The largest settlements in the municipality are Sirbma or Sirma, Polmak, Skiippagurra and Austertana , in addition to the administrative center of Tana bru .

Most of the residents of the place are Sami . Their language is colloquial and is taught in schools. The main source of seeds, besides the reindeer breeding of salmon fishing . The Tana River is one of the richest salmon rivers in Europe.
