Bardu is a municipality in Northern Norway in the province ( Fylke ) Troms og Finnmark .

It includes several settlements. The main town and administrative seat is Setermoen . Setermoen is Norway's largest garrison town , and the Norwegian army is also the region's largest employer. There is also a "polar zoo" in Bardu, where subarctic species such as bears and wolves can be seen. Furthermore, the Altevatnet is also the largest lake in the Fylke in the municipality.

In recent years Bardu has produced several internationally successful Nordic combined athletes, the most famous of which is probably Fred Børre Lundberg . A daughter of the municipality is the writer Sissel Solbjørg Bjugn (* 1947). Sister city is the Bavarian city of Füssen .
