Kvæfjord is a northern Norwegian municipality in the province ( Fylke ) Troms og Finnmark .
It is located on Hinnøya , the largest island in Norway (excluding Spitsbergen) and encompasses the land around the eponymous Kvæfjord . The administrative center and largest town is Borkenes with around 2,000 inhabitants, other settlements are Bogen , Bremnes, Elde, Trastad, Strand, Vikeland, Vik, Storjord, Hemmestad, Refsnes, Flesnes, Langvassbukt, Våtvoll, Gullholm, Gullesfjordbotn and Kveøy.
Kvæfjord is characterized by agriculture and is particularly famous for its strawberries.
