Greek question
The Greek question refers to certain political conflicts in the history of Greece and the Ottoman Empire :
- the oriental question raised by the Greek revolution against the Ottomans from 1821 or by Egypt's interference in this uprising from 1822/24 ;
- the dispute over South Thessaly , which was ceded to Greece by the Ottomans in 1881;
- the need, caused by Greece's defeat in the war (for Northern Thessaly and Crete ) against the Ottoman Empire in 1897, to end the Greek bankruptcy of 1893 by resuming payments, which led to international (multinational) financial control over Greece, see also Turkish- Greek War ;
- the question of the extent of Greek territorial gains after the fall of the Ottoman Empire in the First World War at the peace conferences in Paris and Sèvres .
