Maria Müller (born April 10, 1985 ) is a German wrestler . She won four medals at international championships and was five times German champion in women. She was a member of the sports promotion group of the Thuringian police .

Career

Maria Müller began wrestling at SV Lokomotive Altenburg when she was seven, where her older brother Eric, who was also a wrestler, had taken her with him. She developed into an excellent freestyle wrestler and became German A youth champion in 2002. Her international career began in the same year. She took 4th place at the Junior European Championships (Cadets) in Albena (Bulgaria) in the weight class up to 65 kg and barely missed a medal. In the same year she moved to the sports high school in Jena, where she got an excellent trainer in the former world champion in freestyle wrestling Hartmut Reich . Later she joined the Thuringian state police and became a member of the sports promotion group of the Thuringian police.

In 2003 she started at the German women's championship for the first time and came in second in the weight class up to 63 kg behind Stephanie Groß from AC Ückerath. In 2004 Marie Müller took 3rd place behind Stephanie Groß and Julia Weiß from TV Traunstein and in 2005 she was German runner-up, again behind Stephanie Groß, in the weight class up to 63 kg. In 2006 she was the first German champion in women (up to 63 kg) and in 2007 she had to admit defeat in the final of the German championship Stefanie Stüber from ASV Daxlanden. But that year she stayed ahead of her old rival Stephanie Groß.

From 2008 to 2011, Maria Müller became the German women's champion four times in a row. 2008 in the weight class up to 67 kg and from 2009 to 2011 in the weight class up to 72 kg body weight.

In her international career, winning four medals was the highlight. She won bronze medals at the 2004 European Junior Championships in Sofia, at the 2005 European Junior Championships in Wrocław, each in the weight class up to 63 kg and in the junior age group, at the 2006 Women's World Cup in Guangzhou in the weight class up to 67 kg and at the 2007 European Championship in sofa, again in the weight class up to 67 kg.

She missed the jump to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing by finishing 8th at the qualifying tournament in Edmonton in the weight class up to 63 kg. There, Olga Chilko from Belarus and Teresa Mendez from Spain, two wrestlers who Maria Müller had previously defeated on other occasions, qualified.

In the years 2008 to 2011 Maria Müller could no longer place in the front field at the international championships.

At the 2011 European Championships in Dortmund, Maria Müller suffered such a severe collarbone injury that she had to retire from active wrestling. She remained connected to wrestling as a trainer. She now lives in Mellingen in Thuringia.
