Yulis Gabriel Mercedes Reyes (born November 12, 1979 in Monte Plata ) is a Dominican Taekwondoin . It starts in the weight class up to 58 kilograms.

Mercedes contested its first international title fights at the 1999 World Championship in Edmonton . He reached the semi-finals in the class up to 54 kilograms and surprisingly won a bronze medal. The 2001 World Championship in Jeju-si was also successful, with Mercedes just failing in the quarter-finals. He won a bronze medal at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo . Mercedes qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens . After an opening defeat against Óscar Salazar and a victory and a defeat in the hope round, he finished fifth in the class up to 58 kilograms. In the years that followed, Mercedes was only able to celebrate successes at the Pan American Championships. Only in 2007 did he draw attention to himself again with gold at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro . In Beijing he took part in his second Olympic Games . He moved into the final, defeated there by Guillermo Pérez and thus won the first silver medal of a Dominican athlete at the Olympic Games. The year 2011 was also successful for Mercedes.
