TaekwondoData

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

TaekwondoData is a freely accessible sports database in which data from all Taekwondo - Championships of the World Taekwondo Federation and its continental and partly also the national associations are processed. The database is used internationally as a reference for print and online media. International sports associations use them to create rankings for athletes and to organize international tournaments (placing participants).

content

TaekwondoData currently contains (as of November 2013) information about the successes of over 26,000 competitors from 184 nations. All athletes who took part in championships at world or continental level are entered in the database. The international entries begin with the 1973 World Cup, which was held for the first time . In addition, the result lists of the German championships from 1967 can be found in TaekwondoData.

There you will find detailed information about World Championships (from 1973), Olympic Games (from 2000), Qualifying Tournaments for the Olympic Games (from 1999), World Cup (from 1986), Student World Championships (from 1983), Military World Championships (from 1987), World Games ( from 1981), Asian Championships (from 1974), African Championships (from 1996), European Championships (from 1976), Pan American Championships (from 1978) and Oceania Championships (from 2005).

Ranking

TaekwondoData is a ranking list of the athletes (ranking) with which the successes of the competitors are measured based on the specified number of points. Each competitor not only receives tournament points for a medal place, but also for his participation. In addition, points are awarded for each fight won. The number of points will be halved at the turn of the year, so that even successful newbies can relatively quickly take a top position in their weight class.

There is also a career ranking in which all points earned at any given point in time are added up. Steven Lopez from the USA has led this ranking for a long time . In second place is Hadi Saei Bonehkohal from Iran , who has since retired .

In addition to the championships mentioned above, "A-Class Tournaments" are also held in Europe. These are eight tournaments that are held in eight different countries in Europe. For a medal place in these top-class tournaments there are also tournament points, but no competition points.

Origin and maintenance

The database was set up in 1999 by Peter Bolz, the press spokesman for the Bavarian Taekwondo Union (BTU) who lives near Munich. Together with Marius Mühlberger and Georg Streif , he keeps the TaekwondoData up to date.
