Steven Lopez (born November 9, 1978 in New York City , New York ) is an American Taekwondoin who was Olympic champion in 2000 and 2004 . Having won five world championship titles in a row, he is one of the most successful Taekwondo fighters of his era.

Personal

His parents Julio and Ondina Lopez emigrated from Nicaragua to the United States in 1973 , and Steven Lopez was born five years later. He graduated from Kempner High School in Sugar Land , Texas in 1997 . His siblings Mark , Diana and Jean Lopez are also all members of the US national team in Taekwondo. In April 2005 Steven and his two siblings Diana and Mark won a world title at the World Championships in Madrid. Her brother Jean acted as her trainer. From 2001 to 2009 Lopez won the world title five times in a row in his respective weight class. In 2000 and 2004 he was also an Olympic champion, and in 2008 he also won bronze. At the Pan American Games in 1999 and 2003 he also secured a gold medal.
