Labrador Records is a Swedish record label specializing in indie pop and twee pop .
history
The label was founded in 1997 by Bengt Rahm. Initially, the goal was to only play Swedish pop bands. Soon the Acid House Kings made contact with Summersound Recordings . The band members Joakim Ödlund, Niklas and Johan Angergård were also owners of Summersound Recordings. Both labels shared their enthusiasm for melodic indie pop with echoes of electronica and twee pop. Therefore, they merged in 2001 to form Labrador Records, which was known only to a few at the time.
With the success of The Radio Dept. The big breakthrough came in 2003. Their debut album Lesser Matters landed at number 1 in the charts in Sweden and the New Musical Express also noticed the band. As a result, the label's level of awareness rose steeply. Bands like The Legends and Corduroy Utd. went on tour in Germany and consolidated the high reputation of the label in the indie scene. In the meantime, the Labrador label has become a determining factor.
Current situation
Today the business is run by Johan Angergård, the members of the management are Bengt Rahm, Joakim Ödlund, Niklas Angergård and Mattias Berglund. In order for new bands to be signed, all members of the management team still have to agree. As the 100th release of the label and for the 10th anniversary, the compilation Labrador 100 - A Complete History of Popular Music was released in 2007 at a special price.
