The Radio Dept. is a Swedish indie pop band from Lund . Dept. stands for Department, the band name means radio department .

Band history

The band was formed in 1995 by schoolmates Elin Almered and Johan Duncanson. They took the band name from a gas station with radio repairs , whereupon a sign that read Radioavdelningen (Radio Dept. in Swedish) was drawn to attention. However, Almered and Duncanson soon ended their cooperation.

Three years later the formation was revived by Johan Duncanson, this time in collaboration with Martin Larsson. In 2001, Larsson's then girlfriend Lisa Carlberg joined on bass, followed by Per Blomgren on drums and Daniel Tjader on keyboards. In 2001 the band finally sent recordings to the music magazine Sonic , received positive reviews and ended up on a CD sampler supplied free of charge by the magazine. Labrador Records managers heard the recording on the disc and brought it to their label. Per Blomgren dropped out before the release of their album Lesser Matters and Lisa Carlberg left the group after the release of the This Past Week EP . The band then decided to use digital drum tracks and not use a bass guitar at all.

After Pulling Our Weight , I Don't Like It Like This and Keen On Boys appeared as the soundtrack to Sofia Coppola's film Marie Antoinette , the band received a lot of attention and recognition. In early 2006 her second album Pet Grief was released. The reviews were mixed. NME gave Pet Grief a 7 out of 10 rating units, but other magazines weren't quite as positive. Eventually, thanks to the internet , Pet Grief found a growing popularity and wide following. In 2006 their single We Made The Team came out as the 100th release of the Labrador label. All 100 singles appeared on the 2007 compilation Labrador 100 - A Complete History of Popular Music .

In 2007 the band canceled their UK tour and spent most of their time in the studio working on their new album. Clinging To A Scheme was supposed to appear first in spring 2008, but was not finished until the second planned release date in September. Labrador had to announce that the recordings are being delayed indefinitely. To bridge the waiting time, the band released Freddie And The Trojan Horse . A year later, the first single from the new album was released with David . Finally, in the spring of 2010, the second single Heaven's On Fire was released at the same time as the finished album, which could not be placed in the Swedish Sverigetopplistan .

The album Running Out Of Love was released in autumn 2016 .
