The Mary Onettes were founded in 2000 in the small Swedish town of Jönköping. In the first few years, the line-up and musical orientation changed constantly until the current band members finally found themselves, who aligned the sound to the 80s indie guitar pop and also took up influences from twee pop , gothic rock and new wave . In 2005 Sony BMG became aware of the group, offered them a contract and marketed their first EP Make Me Last . Despite good reviews, her contract was not extended. They then sent a demo CD to the Swedish label Labrador Records , which the band signed in early 2006. In the same year the EP Lost was released on the label . In 2007 the self-titled debut album was released first in Sweden, then in Europe and at the end of the year also in the USA, which could meet the high expectations and was also mentioned by Pitchfork Media . The EP Void and a video for Explosions followed . In autumn 2007 the band went on tour, which they also took to Germany. After a year without publications, the single Puzzles , the EP Dare and the long player Islands were released in 2009 . In 2010 the band released the singles Once I Was Pretty and The Night Before The Funeral . In February 2012 the EP Love Forever was released. In November 2012, the single Evil Coast was released as a release from their third studio album Hit The Waves , which was released in March 2013.
