Club 8 is a Swedish electro- indie-pop duo from Stockholm .

Band history

Club 8 was founded in 1995 by Karolina Komstedt and Johan Angergård, who had met as band members at Poprace and now wanted to make music together. At first they just made simple recordings of their first three songs and sent them to their preferred labels, some of which showed immediate interest. Finally they signed with the Spanish label Siesta , where their debut single Me Too was soon released. Her first long player Nouvelle followed the following year , the sound of which was still dominated by twee-pop. In 1998 they released their second album The Friend I Once Had and the single Missing You , which became a club and radio hit in Spain and the US. In 1999 the duo first performed live in New York .

The previous productions were characterized by a mix of bossa nova , sonorous guitar runs and catchy pop melodies and already testified to a certain musical development of the band. In 2001, the duo released the album Club 8 on Labrador Records , a label co-founded by Johan Angergård , which, with its trip-hop elements, struck a much more relaxed and slower note than the previous albums. Love In December was the hit single from that time. In autumn 2001 the two Swedes experimented in the Summersound Studios with various styles such as bossa nova, trip-hop, dub and chillout . The two albums of this most productive phase of the band were 2002 Spring Came, Rain Fell and 2003 Strangely Beautiful , which again contained more guitar sound. In spring 2003 they brought out a video for the single Saturday Night Engine , which was shown many times on MTV Nordic and reached position 16 in the Up North Chart .

In the following years it was much quieter around Club 8, as Johan Angergård founded his new band The Legends in 2003 , with whom he recorded three albums between 2004 and 2006. In addition, he released the album Sing along with Acid House Kings in 2005 with his old band Acid House Kings , so that with Club 8 there was only time for a few small tours in Asia and Europe. It wasn't until 2006 that the duo went back into the studio together to record the album The Boy Who Couldn't Stop Dreaming , which was released in 2007 and was well received by critics. In 2008 Labrador Records remixed and reissued the albums The Friend I Once Had , Club 8 , Spring Came, Rain Fell and Strangely Beautiful . In the spring of 2008 Club 8 and Edson went on a tour of Southeast Asia together and came to China , Taiwan , Hong Kong , Singapore , Malaysia and Indonesia . In September 2008 the single Jesus, walk with me was released . In 2010 the duo brought out another long player, The People's Record , which received mediocre to good reviews.
