Poprace was a Swedish indie pop band from Stockholm .

Band history

Poprace was founded in 1992. After only a few months of rehearsals together, the band ventured into the studio and recorded some songs that were released by the German independent label Marsh-Marigold Records . Hanggliding At Sea did not sell well, but gave the band a certain degree of popularity, so that they could perform in front of a larger audience in Hamburg. In 1994 and 1995 the group toured several Swedish clubs, which also made the music scene aware of the band.

During this time Poprace changed the sound noticeably. The music was oriented from rock to twee pop and indie pop . In 1995 the band played new songs, which were marketed as a self-titled EP in 1996 by the Spanish label Elefant Records . In the same year the band broke up. Johan Angergård and Joakim Ödlund focused again on their band Acid House Kings , which they had founded in 1991. Johan Angergård also made music together with Karolina Komstedt under the name Club 8 , where they developed the sound of Poprace as a duo. Joakim Ödlund founded the band Starlet together with Henrik Mårtensson and Anders Baeck , whose sound has its origins in Poprace.
