Son Tae-jin ( Korean 손태진 ; * May 5, 1988 in Gyeongsan ) is a South Korean Taekwondoin . He became the 2008 Olympic featherweight champion.

Son celebrated his first international success at the Junior Asian Championships 2005 in Almaty , winning the title in the class up to 63 kilograms. In 2007 he qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing at the International Olympic Qualification Tournament in Manchester . In the run-up to the team, he surprisingly prevailed against Song Myeong-seob . In the Olympic tournament, Son moved into the final in the class up to 68 kilograms with victories over Dennis Bekkers , Servet Tazegül and Sung Yu-chi , where he narrowly beat Mark Lopez and became Olympic champion. In the years after the games, Son did not make the leap to the national team and did not contest any other international title fights.
