Cheick Sallah Cissé (born September 19, 1993 in Bouaké ) is an Ivorian Taekwondoin . He starts in the weight class up to 80 kilograms and is Olympic champion in this .

Career

Cissé won his first international medal with bronze at the 2014 African Championships in Tunis . At the 2015 World Championships , he was eliminated in the round of 16 after a 3: 4 defeat by Steven Lopez . In the same year he won the gold medal at the Africa Games in Brazzaville , in the final he defeated Oussama Oueslati with 12:10. In 2016 he became the African champion for the first time in Port Said .

Due to his world ranking position, Cissé was qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . After victories over Piotr Paziński (8: 2), Tahir Güleç (7: 1) and Oussama Oueslati (7: 6), he met Lutalo Muhammad in the final . With a head hit in the last second, Cissé turned a 4: 6 deficit into an 8: 6 and became Olympic champion. He was the first Ivorian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal.
