qualification

Qualification criteria

128 athletes took part in the competitions, 64 women and 64 men. 16 athletes competed in each weight class. The host NOK was guaranteed four quota places . Another four athletes were invited by the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) after the qualification phase . Each NOK could qualify a total of up to eight athletes, four women and four men, but a maximum of one athlete per weight class. Achieving quota places was decisive for the allocation of starting places.

The following qualification criteria applied in parallel to women and men. The six highest placed athletes in the world rankings as of December 2015 won a quota place. Further places were then awarded at the continental qualifying tournaments. In Europe , Asia , Africa and America the top two in each weight class qualified, in Oceania the respective winner. Wildcards were given to the Central African Republic, Haiti, Honduras and Nepal.
