María del Rosario Espinoza Espinoza (born November 29, 1987 in Guasave ) is a Mexican Taekwondoin . She became world middleweight champion in 2007 and Olympic heavyweight champion in 2008.

Espinoza has been competing in international championships since 2003, her first successes being in the junior division. At the Junior Pan American Championship in Rio de Janeiro in 2003 , she won the title in the class up to 59 kilograms, and at the 2004 Junior World Championship in Suncheon she reached the quarter-finals. In the adult area Espinoza took first time in 2005 in Madrid at the World Cup in part. She moved into the quarterfinals in the class up to 67 kilograms and was eliminated there against Sandra Šarić . The following World Cup in 2007 in Beijing was even more successful . Espinoza won the final against Lee In-jong in the class up to 72 kilograms and became world champion for the first time. She also won gold in the heavyweight division at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro. Espinoza qualified for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In the heavyweight over 67 kilograms she started the competition with two wins, defeating Sarah Stevenson in the semifinals and Nina Solheim in the final and became the first Mexican Olympic champion in Taekwondo. She won another heavyweight title at the 2010 Pan American Championship in Monterrey .

At the 2011 American Olympic qualification tournament in Santiago de Querétaro , Espinoza reached the final and secured participation in their second Olympic Games in London in 2012 . There she won the bronze medal, with a 4-2 victory over Glenhis Hernández . In November 2014, she defeated the same opponent 3-1 in Veracruz in the final of the Central American and Caribbean Games .

In 2016 , she completed her set of Olympic medals by winning the silver medal. At the 2017 World Championships in Muju , she secured bronze.
