Sarah Stevenson , MBE (born March 30, 1983 in Doncaster ) is a British Taekwondoin . She starts in the middle and heavyweight division.

Stevenson started taekwondo with the Doncaster All Stars association at the age of seven . She celebrated her first successes at the age of 15, in 1998 she was first junior world champion, a year later junior European champion. She was able to qualify for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney . There she reached the semifinals, but narrowly missed a medal in fourth. In the following year Stevenson finally won her first international medal, she won the gold medal at the 2001 World Cup in Jeju-si . At the European Championships in Samsun in 2002 and in Lillehammer in 2004she was able to win the silver medal. Stevenson qualified for their second Olympic Games in Athens , but lost their opening match there and eliminated. The year 2005 was more successful. Stevenson won the title at the European Championships in Riga and the World Championships in Madrid . She was able to successfully defend the European title the following year at the European Championships in Bonn .

Then Stevenson switched to the lighter weight class up to 67 kilograms. She qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . There she met local hero Chen Zhong in the quarter-finals and scored the decisive head hit seconds before the end of the fight, which was only recognized after protesting and studying the video images. After losing in the semifinals, she won the battle for bronze and won the first British Olympic medal in Taekwondo. In the following years Stevenson won more gold medals, she won the 2010 European Championships in Saint Petersburg and the 2011 World Championships in Gyeongju . Stevenson is regarded as one of Britain's biggest medal hopes for the Olympic Games Home in London . As a representative of the athletes, she took the Olympic oath at the opening of the games .

Stevenson's husband is also involved in Taekwondo and is part of the UK national team's coaching team.
