The Arena Carioca 3 is a multi-purpose hall in the Olympic Park Rio de Janeiro , which is connected to two other halls.
history
The Arena Carioca 3 was built for the 2016 Summer Olympics on the site of a former racetrack. After three years of construction, the arena was inaugurated on May 15, 2016 by the Mayor of Rios Eduardo Paes . Since the hall had no air conditioning, the heat could be felt very strongly. The hall has an area of 23,000 square meters and is 19 meters high. During the Olympic Games, the capacity was 10,000 spectators. The arena was the venue for competitions in Taekwondo and fencing . As part of the subsequent Paralympics in 2016 , the arena was used as a venue for the wheelchair fencing competitions. After the games, due to the lack of schools in Barra da Tijuca, the hall should become the school building of the Ginásio Experimental Olímpico . However, this project was never implemented for cost reasons.
In January 2020, a court ordered the temporary closure of all sports facilities in Rio de Janeiro's Olympic Park due to a lack of security documents .
