The Arena do Futuro ( German  Arena of the Future ) was a temporary sports hall in the Olympic Park in Rio de Janeiro .

history

The hall was built for the 2016 Summer Olympics . The capacity of the hall was 12,000 spectators. The handball games were held here during the Olympic Games . As part of the subsequent Paralympics in 2016 , the stadium was used as a venue for the goalball games. After the games, the hall was dismantled and the material was to be used to build four schools in the city. In August 2017, however, these plans were rejected by Mayor Marcelo Crivella .
