During the 2016 Summer Olympics , golf tournaments were held on the course . These were the first St. Louis Olympic golf tournaments since 1904 . The tournaments took place between August 11th and 20th.

The golf course was designed by the North American architect Gil Hanse , founder of Hanse Golf Course Design. The architectural design of the clubhouse was selected as part of a national competition sponsored by the Rio Olympic Organizing Committee and the Brazilian Institute of Architects. The winner of the competition was the design by the architects Pedro Évora and Pedro Rivera.
