With the III. Olympics 1904 in St. Louis found two competitions in golf instead. The venue was the site of the Glen Echo Country Club, founded three years earlier in the suburb of Normandy west of St. Louis .
When the club learned that the World Exhibition and the Olympic Games would be held in St. Louis, it applied to host the golf tournament and invested in a new building for the clubhouse. He sent invitations to numerous countries, but only three Canadians from abroad responded; all other participants were Americans. All players had to pay an entry fee of five dollars and promise that they were not professionals. A total of seven golf competitions took place between September 16 and 24, two of which were advertised as “Olympic”. The tournament week ended with a banquet at which the medals and trophies were presented.
