Robert Edward Hunter (born November 20, 1886 in Chicago , Illinois , † March 28, 1971 in Santa Barbara , California ) was an American golfer .

biography

Robert Hunter was from Chicago and played golf at the Midlothian Country Club . At the 1904 Olympic Games in St. Louis , he was Olympic champion with the Western Golf Association in team competition . In the individual, however, he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Burt McKinnie . Hunter later moved to New Haven , where he was active as a rower for the Yale Bulldogs in addition to golf. In 1910, Hunter won the NCAA golf championship both individually and as a team. He participated seven times in the US amateur and twice in the US Open . After his time at Yale University , Hunter attended the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris , where he studied architecture.
