Francis Clement "Frank" Newton (born January 3, 1874 in Washington, DC , † August 3, 1946 in Greenwich , Connecticut ) was an American golfer .

biography

Francis Newton attended George Washington University and later Johns Hopkins University . After completing his studies, he worked as a chemist for several companies and took over the management of the lighting company The Frink Corporation . He was the company's CEO and later a board member at several subsidiaries.

Newton played golf at the Seattle Country Club . At the Olympic Games in 1904 in St. Louis , he won the bronze medal in golf singles . With the Trans Mississippi Golf Association he also won the silver medal in the team competition . In 1905 he moved to California and in 1910 won the California Amateur and the Pacific Northwest Amateur . In 1915 he moved to Massachusetts , where he won the North & South Amateur in 1923 , the Mid-South Amateur in 1925 and the New England Amateur in 1926 . In addition to golf, Newton was also active as a tennis player.
