The Arena de Vôlei de Praia was a temporary beachfront stadium in the Copacabana district of Rio de Janeiro .
At the 2016 Summer Olympics , the stadium was built and it served as a competition venue for the beach volleyball games . The stadium had a total of 12,000 seats.
The arena was 21 meters high and had a total area of 62,000 square meters. This also included two additional warm-up areas next to the main arena and 4 training areas. The stadium was built within 100 days and dismantled again within 45 days. A total of 408,000 spectators visited the arena during the 13 days of the competition. The arena was under the responsibility of the Organizing Committee of the 2016 Olympic Games and was developed by the committee architect Luísa Xavier and built in collaboration with the Rohr-Fast consortium. After the games, the stadium was dismantled again.
The beach had already hosted international competitions, for which temporary sports facilities were built. Beach volleyball, triathlon and open water swimming competitions took place there as part of the 2007 Pan American Games . These sports were also played here at the 2011 Summer Military World Games. In the triathlon, the finish was at one end of the beach - Posto 6 - and cycling and running took place between Posto 2 and Posto 6. The beach volleyball games were played in the Copacabana Arena at Posto 2.
