Günther Reh

Günther Reh (born March 9, 1928 ; † December 24, 2014 ) was a German entrepreneur in the wine industry.

Life

Reh came from a family active in the wine trade from Leiwen on the Moselle . In the 1960s he took over the management of the family-owned winery Carl Reh from his father, Carl Reh. With the acquisition of the Faber sparkling wine cellar , Reh entered into sparkling wine production as well as producing and trading wine. He also took over the Feist-Belmont sparkling wine cellar , and he also invested in vineyards on the Moselle, thereby expanding his group of companies. Reh was also active in real estate business

In 1978 he took over the traditional VDP - Weingut Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt in Morscheid , which was run for many years by his daughter Annegret Reh-Gartner and which is now majority owned by Schloss Wachenheim AG

In 1992, Reh acquired the Bingen winery Kendermann , and from 1995 successively the Sektkellerei Schloss Wachenheim AG, which had got into financial difficulties . Reh has bundled its various companies into two corporate groups: Schloss Wachenheim AG , based in Trier (focus: production and distribution of sparkling wine and sparkling wine) and Reh Kendermann GmbH in Bingen (focus: production and trade in wine).

In the course of the 1990s, Reh passed the two groups on to his sons Nick Reh (Schloss Wachenheim) and Carl Reh jr. (Deer-Kendermann).

In 1991 he founded the charitable community foundation "Günther Reh Heimat und Wein" Leiwen.

Together with his wife Käthi, Reh had four children: the daughters Eva and Annegret and the sons Nick and Carl jr.

Business importance

Meininger Verlag, which specializes in specialist publications on the subject of wine, described Reh in an obituary as "one of the most dynamic and agile entrepreneurs (...) in German viticulture". Among other things, he created today's Schloss Wachenheim AG as "one of the world's largest producers of wine, sparkling wine and trendy drinks".

With sales of EUR 94 million (Schloss Wachenheim AG), the companies that can be traced back to Reh are now among the largest companies in the German wine industry.

Honors

In 2008, Reh was made an honorary citizen of his home community in Leiwen. In December 2012, Reh was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon. Malu Dreyer presented the award for his entrepreneurial work and social commitment in the Electoral Palace .
