The Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt winery is a former winery belonging to the Counts of Kesselstatt in the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer growing area , which is now majority owned (90%) by Schloss Wachenheim AG .

history

With a history of over 650 years, the Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt winery is one of the most traditional goods in the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer growing region. In the years 1740 to 1746 the von Kesselstatt family had the famous Baroque master builder Johann Valentin Thoman built a stately palace opposite the Trier Liebfrauenkirche . This was almost completely destroyed in the Second World War, but was rebuilt according to old plans. In Palais Kesselstatt are now a restaurant and a wine bar.

In 1978 Günther Reh acquired the Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt winery from the founding family. In 1983 his daughter Annegret Reh-Gartner took over the management of the winery. She ran it for 33 years. She passed away in 2016. The management was taken over by Mona Steffen, Wolfgang Mertes and Michael Weber. Today the winery is run as a holding by Schloss Wachenheim AG , which is majority owned by the Reh family .

The Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt winery has been based at Marienlay Castle in Morscheid in the Ruwertal since 1999 , where the winery is also located; Carl Reh had acquired it in 1952 with the property belonging to it (11.5 hectares). The cultivation area extends over 36 hectares on the steep slopes of the Moselle, Ruwer and Saar. 100% Riesling wines are grown. The winery has been a member of the Association of German Predicate and Quality Wineries (VDP) since 2005 .
