The wine village of Wiltingen an der Saar is a municipality in the Trier-Saarburg district in Rhineland-Palatinate . She belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Konz . The Wiltinger Platt is a form of the Moselle-Franconian dialects .

geography

Wiltingen is about nine kilometers southwest of Trier on the lower Saar between Konz and Saarburg . The community is characterized by its valley location with steep, vine-planted slopes . Almost 700 hectares of forest adjoin in a south-easterly direction.

To the west of the town center, on both sides of the Saar, lies the nature conservation and FFH area of Wiltinger Saarbogen .

If one takes the area as a basis, Wiltingen is the largest local community in the Saar in the Verbandsgemeinde Konz. The place stretches for a few kilometers along the Saar. The development begins on the left with the small district on the left side of the Saar Bridge, known locally as "Der Diwwer" (over there). "Der Diwwer" also includes the new building of the Van Volxem winery , a production building for Moselland eG (Max Mann sektkellerei and a wine café are also located here) and the Peters winery.

Kerndorf

If you follow the Saar on the right-hand side, the core village joins, which encompasses the majority of the built-up area. The center of the core town is the village square with the bakery, restaurant and cultural area and the church .

Scharzhof

In the direction of Oberemmel, the Scharzhof joins, at the foot of the Scharzhofberg , about one kilometer from the development boundary. It houses the Egon Müller winery .

Rauhof

Below the Wiltinger Klosterberg in the direction of Konz you will find the Rauhof on the right. It is a former branch of the Benedictine Abbey of Mettlach, which was abandoned in 1802 and passed into private ownership at that time.

Wiltinger Kupp

A small cluster of three houses can be found on the Wiltinger Kupp. The most striking "red house", which stands directly on the street, is a converted wine press house and is now used as a residence.

The name Wiltingen is mentioned for the first time in a property register of the Mergen monastery from the year 1030, confirmed by the Archbishop of Trier Poppo . Later, in the Middle Ages until the end of the 18th century, Wiltingen was a separate rulership together with the neighboring municipality of Kanzem , which was an enclave in the electorate Trier belonged to the Duchy of Luxembourg . The barons of Warsberg exercised high, middle and basic jurisdiction.

On July 18, 1946, Wiltingen, together with 80 other municipalities in the districts of Trier and Saarburg , was annexed to the Saar area , which was separated from the rest of the French occupation zone in February 1946 and was no longer under the Allied Control Council at the time . On June 6, 1947, this territorial outsourcing was withdrawn to 21 municipalities again, so Wiltingen came to the 1946 newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate .

"This is how my village lies, surrounded by vines, in the golden midday light. The grape smells, it shines in the cup of Wiltingen's golden wine. Upstream and downstream, Wiltingen's wine is world-famous throughout the country.

So my village had been hidden in silence and small for many centuries - but the vines climbed the mountain and the house, the wine sparkles in the cup. A noble knight, with the lion in his shield, probably kept watch over the village.

Time rushes like a river into the sea of ​​eternity. We are past, present, two drops of eternal time. The drops are like fine crystal to us, like golden wine in a bright cup:

	Reasons for the coat of arms: The silver lion is the coat of arms of the barons of Warsberg, who were enfeoffed with the rule of Wiltingen from 1547 until the fall of the old empire . The vine tendril with grape in the shield head points to the importance of Wiltingen as the largest wine town in the Saar wine-growing region . Particularly noteworthy is the fact that the Warsberg coat of arms - the Wiltingen community was associated with the family for centuries - comes into its own and the Warsbergers are honored as a souvenir.

Culture

The Wiltinger village newspaper Spilles appears three times a year. The edition is approx. 500 pieces. The magazine, which resembles a magazine in form and design, can be filled with articles by every citizen of Wiltingen. It takes up current issues from village politics and community society, provides foresight and reviews and is intended to serve the Wiltinger as an information and entertainment journal. Wiltinger Weinlied

The wine-growing village of Wiltingen leads the "Wine-entwined village", which premiered in 1947, as an unofficial anthem. The melody of the conductor of the Wiltingen winegrowing band Peter Berschens, which can be danced in 3/4 time and is easy to grasp, has been supplemented with a poem from the pen of the former mayor Michael Zeimet and has become the song of the Wiltingen people. It has been experiencing a renaissance since 2019; it is part of the intangible cultural heritage of the place, similar to the Wiltinger Platt.

Wine

There are over 160 hectares of planted vineyards in the Wiltingen area (2020). The Wiltinger Scharzhofberg is one of the most famous Riesling sites in the Saar, also known as "Wiltinger Gottesfuß" and "Wiltinger Braune Kupp". In contrast, the Scharzberg is not a single location, but the name of a large location for the entire cultivation area of the Saar. Wiltingen is considered the center of Riesling cultivation on the Saar.

The Saarburg-Konz cycle path leads through Wiltingen.
