Geisfeld is a municipality in the Trier-Saarburg district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Hermeskeil community .
geography
Geisfeld is located in the Black Forest high forest and in the Saar-Hunsrück nature park . The community also includes the residential areas Birkenhof, Forsthaus Königsfeld, Simonsmühle (Geisfeldermühle) and Bauscheiderhof as well as the street “Im Hellgott”, the Abtei village that otherwise belongs to Hermeskeil .
history
As "Gaurici campus" (field of Gaugerich) the place mentioned in 883 belonged to the Trier St. Paulin Abbey .
Until the end of the 18th century, Geisfeld belonged to the Electorate of Trier and was assigned to the Grimburg office. Within the office, Geisfeld was a central court that belonged to the Reinsfeld care . In 1648 the place had ten fire places.
After the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine by French revolutionary troops (1794), Geisfeld belonged to the canton Hermeskeil in the Saar department from 1798 to 1814 . Due to the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna (1815), the region came under the Kingdom of Prussia . Under the Prussian administration, Geisfeld was assigned to the Hermeskeil mayor's office in the Trier district in the newly established Trier administrative district , which belonged to the Rhine province from 1822 onwards.

Attractions
The church of St. Maria Rosenkranzkönigin was built based on plans by the baroque master builder Balthasar Neumann in 1753/54 and was fitted out in 1770/71. The tower and sacristy of an older church were integrated into the new building.
