The Verbandsgemeinde Hermeskeil is located in the south-eastern part of the Trier-Saarburg district in the Rhineland-Palatinate high forest . The administrative seat of the association , which is formed from the city ​​of Hermeskeil and twelve other independent local communities , is located in Hermeskeil, the seat of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park . The municipality has territorial shares in the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park and is called the Hermeskeil National Park Association .

history

During the feudal period , the region around Hermeskeil belonged to the Electorate of Grimburg . During the French era , the canton and the Mairie Hermeskeil emerged, from which the Prussian mayor's office Hermeskeil was later formed. The communities Hermeskeil, Damflos, Geisfeld, Rascheid, Pölert , Hinzert , Reinsfeld, Gusenburg, Grimburg, Neuhütten, Züsch and Börfink-Muhl belonged to it .

In the 1920s the name was changed to “Amt Hermeskeil” and in 1934 the municipalities Bescheid, Beuren and Prosterath were added. As part of an administrative reform, the Verbandsgemeinde Hermeskeil was formed in 1968.

In 1969 the new community Hinzert-Pölert was created from the communities of Hinzert and Pölert. In 1970, the Naurath / Wald community was incorporated into the Hermeskeil community, Muhl came to Neuhütten as part of the community and Hermeskeil received city ​​rights . 1974 Prosterath came to Beuren as part of the municipality.
