The municipality Saarburg-Kell is one of Rhineland-Palatinate municipality in the district of Trier-Saarburg and was 1 January 2019, from the voluntary merger of the Association of Municipalities Saarburg and Kell am See . Saarburg is the main administrative center, in Kell am See branch offices, for example a citizens' office, have been preserved. The Saarburg-Kell association is the largest in the Trier-Saarburg district with 33,025 inhabitants and 28 local communities and the city of Saarburg.

history
On September 28, 2010 the state government passed the “First Law on Local and Administrative Reform” with the aim of improving the efficiency, competitiveness and administrative power of local structures. For municipalities it was determined that they should include at least 12,000 inhabitants (main residence on June 30, 2009). The community of Kell am See fell well below this value.
On April 25, 2018, the state parliament approved the bill to merge the municipalities of Saarburg and Kell am See. The Saarburg-Kell association has officially existed since January 1, 2019.

Association municipal council
The Saarburg-Kell municipal council consists of 40 voluntary council members who were elected in a personalized proportional representation due to the merger of the previous municipalities Saarburg and Kell am See on October 14, 2018 , and the mayor as chairman. The term of office of the council members began on January 1, 2019 and runs until the regular elections in 2024.

mayor
The previous mayor of the Saarburg community, Jürgen Dixius (CDU), was elected first mayor of the Saarburg-Kell community in a direct election on October 14, 2018 with 80.9% of the votes . He took up his new office with the formation of the new association on January 1, 2019, the term of office is eight years.

According to the merger agreement, the community of Saarburg-Kell continues the coat of arms of the previous community of Saarburg.
